This is the first in a series of posts about Credit Score Killers...
There was an [NSFW] scene in the Academy Award winning movie, Pulp Fiction, where underworld crime boss, Marcellus Wallace (played by Ving Rames) is growling instructions about a rigged fight in which Butch Coolidge (played by Bruce Willis) is set to take a dive. Butch, struggling with the notion that the better days of his professional boxing career are behind him, takes an envelope full of cash from Wallace, and agrees to go down in the fifth round. As he does, Wallace tells him,
"...Night of the fight, you may feel a slight sting... That's priiiide, f***ing with ya... F*** pride! Pride only hurts... It never helps. You fight through that sh*t... 'Cause a year from now, when you're kickin' it in the Caribbean, you're gonna say to yourself, Marcellus Wallace was right."
If I haven't already lost you, good. Because there's a huge lesson in that quote that applies to any number of you reading this post, when it comes to your credit.
I can't tell you how many people have come to me over the years, hat in hand, tail between their legs, having finally gotten the nerve to come clean about their personal credit reports. It generally starts after a few years of knowing me, and knowing what I do for a living... They'll look over both shoulders, and whisper something like, "I may wanna have you take a look at my credit pretty soon." I can see it in their face, every... single... time... PRIDE. Actually, it could probably be better described as finally ignoring pride, and seeking my help. Next, they'll offer up that their credit scores "used to be in the 700's", then say, "but [X] happened, and everything went south pretty quickly after that..."
It's embarrassing, and painful, but they know that they can't continue down the same path, and expect things to get better. So they finally decide to say, "F*** pride!", and take action. They do so because they know it's the only way to get the kind of credit repair results from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion that we get, and to bring creditors and collection agencies into compliance.
